Last night my skillet and I had a sweet tooth. I put about 2 cups of raw walnuts in my preheated skillet with a tsp of butter. I added about 1/2 cup of fake maple syrup mixed with real maple syrup. (I was trying to get rid of the fake stuff but didn't have enough to coat the nuts with only it.)
I sauteed the nuts about 15 minutes on medium heat until the syrup began to thicken and coat the nuts. I let them cool on a silicone mat.
They were delicious. My husband asked in a Billy Crystal voice "What? You couldn't roast the nuts foi-irst?" But he still ate them. Next time I will.
I thought about doing this because of a recipe in my cookbook that made honey popcorn just by mixing the 2 ingredients and baking it.
I haven't tried that honey popcorn recipe yet but sometimes I browse cookbooks for ideas that always come in handy later.
